Water Scarcity Footprint of Selected Hydropower Reservoirs

This study assesses the water footprint of hydropower plants with a significant contribution to the electricity supply of aluminium smelters.

After agriculture, hydropower is considered to be the next largest water-consuming sector, largely due to evaporation (EV) from the reservoir surface. This study looks at the water footprint of hydropower and examines the water consumption and resulting impacts on water resource availability and the environment.
