Call to accelerate aluminium beverage can circularity

The global use of aluminium beverage cans is set to increase to 630 billion units by 2030
(from 420 billion units in 2020). Recycling these 630 billion aluminium beverage cans
globally would save 60 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

Despite the fact that over 70% of aluminium beverage cans are recycled into new products today, this impressive figure falls short of making the complete contribution necessary for achieving the 1.5 degree target.

Leaders in the aluminium beverage can value chain are therefore calling on national governments to commit to setting appropriate policies to achieve global aluminium beverage can recycling targets of at least 80% by 2030 and near 100% by 2050.
