1.            IAI Aluminium Industry GHG Initiative Launch

2.            Aluminium: Ambition to Action Workshop

3.            Six Years to Succeed: Advancing Policy, Innovation and Investments to Meet 2030 Targets

Ms Nunez will be moderating a panel session at this year’s World Climate Summit on 7 December (13:15 -14:00 GST) on the topic from ambition to action – the aluminium sector’s commitment to decarbonisation. Just before that, the IAI will launch a new GHG Initiative at 1pm GST.

While the industry works to reduce its emissions, demand for aluminium products is also predicted to grow. Over the coming decades, global demand for primary aluminium will increase by up to 40%, and recycled aluminium from post-consumer scrap will more than triple through to 2050, as economies grow, urbanise and build up their infrastructure.

The IAI is collaboratively articulating credible ways to achieve global climate goals. The decarbonisation challenge is significant, but across the industry, there is a clear commitment throughout the value chain to develop solutions that will reduce the carbon intensity of our primary metal.

Within the framework of our sectoral ambitions, this panel will explore various actions, initiatives and innovations shaping the decarbonisation agenda across the sector.

The panel session will also review specific technology challenges, investment requirements and the need for collaboration with the public sector, investors and customers to deliver the changes within the required timeframe.
